Shock at passing of Peter (46) following Wexford win

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

THE communities of Oylegate and Blackwater were united in grief over the weekend after news broke of the sudden passing of 46 year-old father of three Peter Molloy. Originally from Oylegate, Peter lived at Ballyvaloo, Blackwater, with his beloved wife Josephine and their three daughters Julia, Maura and Clara.

A big fan of Wexford hurling, Peter had made the journey to Tullamore, Co Offaly, to watch Wexford take on the faithful county in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship. The delight at Wexford’s performance on the pitch soon turned to profound sadness as on Sunday morning, Peter was discovered in his hotel room by friends in an unresponsive state. An ambulance was called, however, the father of three was sadly pronounced dead and it is believed that he may have suffered a heart attack.

The son of Maura and the late Jim, Peter was an amiable character and was highly thought of in his local community and had a great many friends. He was a regular at Mernagh’s Bar in Oylegate where he even worked for a short stint before going on to work at Drumderry Concrete.

There was great shock and sadness in the local community as people rallied around his heartbroken family and offered their condolences.

Peter will repose at the family home from today (Tuesday) before removal at 7.30 Wednesday evening to St Brigid’s Church, Blackwater. Funeral Mass will take place there at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Peter is survived by his wife Josephine, beloved children Julia, Maura and Clara, mother Maura, brother James, extended family and a large circle of friends. May he rest in peace.
