Martina and Marja art show
ARTISTS Martina Furlong, below right, and Marja van Kampen, right, will exhibit their colourful paintings and limited edition prints in a Pop-Up Gallery in Siopa Bróg (opposite The Athenaeum) at No. 3 Castle Street, Enniscorthy during the Strawberry Festival.
The exhibition will run from Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3, opening each day from 11am to 5pm and all are welcome to attend.
Dutch artist Marja van Kampen is a full time painter and printmaker who explores childhood themes combined with elements of landscape.
There is a use of vibrant colours and patterns in her paintings, suggested by other cultures.
She enlarges elements, distorts proportions and discards perspective, and introduces a playful imagery to give her work a light-hearted quality.
Her work is featured in many public collections including the
Arts Council of Ireland and Office of Public Works.
Four of her paintings hand in Aras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix park, residence of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. She is a recipient of many Arts Council awards.
Wexford-born Martina Furlong paints colourful, textured landscapes and abstract scenes in oils and acrylics.
Her work is inspired by the things she encounters daily, from the Irish countryside to books, songs, people and buildings.
Martina mixes reality with memories and imagination and paints her own interpretation of it by building up layer upon layer of paint and using various tools as well as brushes and pallet knives to work back into the surface.
