Renowned guitarist Remi at Arts Centre

-

INTERNATIONALLY renowned guitarist Remi Harris who has appeared at the BBC Proms with Jamie Callum and performed at Buckingham Palace will play at Wexford Arts Centre on Thursday, May 31 as part of a three-month nationwide tour of the UK and Ireland.

Remi, pictured right, whose unique style draws inspiration from gypsy swing, blues, rock, electronic and world music, said he is excited about the Wexford gig. ‘I love being able to take my music to new places and I’m really looking forward to visiting Ireland for the first time. The tour has been a lot of fun so far and we’re hoping for a great show in Wexford’, he said.

Born in Herefordshire, he started playing at the age of 17, initially inspired by rock and blues guitarists of the 1960’s and 1970’s such as Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Jimmy Page. In his late teens, he developed an interest in jazz music and in artists such as Django Reinhard, Wes Montgomery and Stan Getz. Since then, he has enjoyed an increasing following on YouTube and social media around the world and a growing reputation for blending all of his influences into his own individual style of playing. He is primarily self-taught, with the help of his father’s guitar magazines and records. In calling him Remi, his French-born mother was inspired by the musical scale Do-Re-Mi.

Remi came in second place at the British Jazz Awards 2017 in the category ‘Guitarist of the Year’, being beaten to the top slot by legendary Martin Taylor MBE, who has described him as ‘brilliant’.
