- By BRENDAN KEANE

WEXFORD GROUP, Maca, have made it through to the semi-final of TG4’s nationwide talent search show, Realta agus Gaolta.

The group, which is composed of sisters, Saoirse, Naoise and Ciara Carty, will now be hoping to make it through to the final of the prestigious competition which is aimed at finding Ireland’s most talented family.

Presented by Sile Seoige the judges on the show are among Ireland’s most respected figures within the music industry including Ronan O Snodaigh, Aoife Scott and Sinead Ni Uallachain.

The show will run over 13 weeks and Maca, who are based in Ryleen on the outskirts of New Ross, are up against strong opposition from all around the country.

That was one of the reasons why they were delighted when they found out they had made it through to the semi-final.

‘We’re over the moon to have made it through because the other contestants are really strong,’ said Saoirse, when commenting to this newspaper about the competition.

‘There are some really brilliant performers and we’ll just do our best and see what happens,’ she added.

Her sentiments were echoed by her sisters with Naoise saying: ‘It’s a great experience for us anyway and we’re delighted to get this far.’

Ciara thanked everyone who helped the group get to this stage of the competition and she also acknowledged how helpful the TG4 crew were in making them feel at ease in front of the cameras.

The girls also expressed delight at being able to perform in front of a panel of well-known and highly regarded judges. As the Carty Sisters the trio have already enjoyed a considerable amount of success with the release of a critically acclaimed E.P.

However, since re-branding themselves as Maca they’ve really been coming to national prominence and while the exact details cannot be revealed at this stage fans of the band can expect a very major show announcement for later in the year.
