Former top garda presents school awards

MORE THAN 400 parents, students, teachers and guests attended the annual CBS Secondary School awards ceremony that was held in the Riverbank House Hotel.

Deputy principal John Hegarty acted as master of ceremonies for the occasion, welcoming the assembled crowd. He congratula­ted all award winners, wishing them the very best for the future.

The special guest on the evening was recently retired Chief Superinten­dent John Roche, who completed his Leaving Cert at the school in 1975. John spoke fondly of his years in the CBS and how his experience­s there instilled in him, the values that have remained a huge part of his life and career since then.

He offered some very useful and insightful advice to the group, He concluded by congratula­ting all of the award winners and wished them well for the future.

School principal Michael McMahon praised the high academic standards achieved by the students while thanking the parents and staff for all of their efforts. He thanked John for his kind words and spoke of the excellent role model he was.

He finished by wishing the students the best in their upcoming exams.

The Awards were then presented to students who achieved high academic standards throughout the 2017-2018 school year. Students from first, second, third, and fifth year received awards from Mr McMahon and John Roche.
