TaghmonCamross TAGHMON ICA
The May meeting took place on Wednesday the 16th. The meeting started with the ICA prayer. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Bishop family on their recent bereavement. The guild outing was discussed and it took place on Friday the 18th to Mount Congreve Gardens and Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore. We also enjoyed some sunshine in Tramore. We joined up with Tomhaggard Women’s Shed and a great day was enjoyed by all, ending with a meal in the new Kennedy Boutique Hotel in New Ross.
As it was our AGM our information officer Joan Furlong attended. She gave us great information for the year ahead. The committee and officers were re-elected unanimously. Joan very kindly brought a prize for the raffle which was won by Eithne McGee. Our other raffle was Mary Monaghan. Secretary Mary Monaghan gave a detailed annual Report. After a lovely tea Joan kindly judged the competition for the nicest bunch of primroses which was won by Marie Green.
The Tom O’Donnell memorial trophy for the most competition wins was presented by Billie O’Donnell to Mary Monaghan. Well done, Mary. A number of members showed interest in Wexford Weekend in An Grianán in October.
The next meeting which is our annual garden meeting takes place on Wedneday June 20 by kind invitation of Eithne McGee.
CAMROSS ICA
Our last meeting was held on Monday, May 14, in Camross Hall. The ladies met earlier to do some ‘yarn bombing’ in the park before the start of the meeting at 8 p.m. Sympathy was extended to Mairead O’Gorman on the passing of her brother Brendan Cullen, and also to Breda Banville and Margaret O’Gorman for the recent passing of their aunt Kit Fanning.
Our new president Mary Kelly congratulated the ladies for their performance at the recent ‘ICA has Got Talent’ event, and she thanked Breda Banville for organising the event that was a real success.
It was decided that the Ann Power Walk would be postponed to September (date to be decided). Breda Banville will host the hospice coffee morning in September (date also to be decided). The Special Occasions event, with the theme ‘Re-opening of Tea Rooms’, was discussed and preparations for this event are well under way.
The ladies enjoyed a most interesting talk by Olga from the Beechdale Garden Center, Enniscorthy (beechdale.ie). Olga told us about various plants that are now available to plant. She advised us to always ask when buying a plant if it is a perennial plant. She also showed us some lovely combinations of flowers for our beddings and hanging baskets. We learnt that you need lime free soil for Camellias, Azaleas and Rhododendrons, and that Rhubarbs thrive with loads of manure. Don’t water the top of flowers/plant, water at their base. With Sweet Peas, the more you dead-head them, the more they come back. Flox keep coming back year after year. Hydrangeas and fuchsias are great for shaded areas.
Delicious tea and scones were served by Dympna Kelly and Berna Cadogan. The winner of our monthly competition of the ‘nicest neck scarf’ was Margaret O’Gorman (Poulpeasty).
A few dates for your diary: June 7 – Special Occasion Event. June 16 – Our own annual tour to Waterford and Tramore. June 25 – Federation meeting in Oulart Hall, Oulart.
Our next meeting will be at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in Camross Hall. The competition will be a 5x7 photo of a rose in bloom. Did you know that there are over 700 local ICA friendly guilds throughout Ireland in towns, villages and rural areas? So why not join your local guild? We cook, travel, craft and socialise.
