KILMORE AC

JACKIE’S EUROPEAN MEDAL - Congratulations to Jackie Carty and the Irish team on their 2nd place in the 035s 10,000m in a hotly contested European Championships in Alicante, Spain on 19th May last. Campeones, campeones,oe oe oe!

SENIOR ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS – Congratulations Fiona Kehoe & Ladies KAC team on their wins in the County Wexford Senior Road Championships in Murrintown on Friday 18th May last. Well done also to men & women on strong performances on a hot and hilly course again this year.

The course this year had less Forth Mountain and more hills but plenty of heat. The first 2-3km of the course were up hill on a road seemingly without turning. This did nothing to slow the pace of the front runners Fiona Kehoe, Anne O’Sullivan (DMP AC), Katie Wilson (DMP AC), Elaine Cardiff, Sharon Cloney, Helen Doyle, Sinéad O’Brien, Catherine Roche and Mary Gorham (both Slaney Olympic AC) who separated from the main pack in the first kilometre.

Fiona drove the race on to power home in 18.04 mins, a very strong time considering she had drove 2 hours from Dublin after work that afternoon. Second place was taken by Ann O’Sullivan (19:51) who was followed closely by her DMP clubmate Katie Wilson (19:54) . Elaine Cardiff was 4th (20:14) in a sprint finish with Catherine Roche of Slaney Olympic (20:18). Sharon Cloney proved that she is back on track literally after the birth of daughter Darcy who cheered on her mammy to a strong 6th place finish (20:33). Helen Doyle ran a solid race to finish 7th (20:43) edging out Mary Gorham of Slaney Olympic (20:44) in the final few metres and thus sealing the deal of 1st team for Kimore. Next home for Kilmore was Sinéad O’Brien finishing 9th (21:26) and first of the women’s second team consisting of Fidelma Rossiter, 16th (22:30), Carol Devereux, 31st (24:27) and Suzanne Foley, 32nd (25:11). Suzanne and Carol were particularly happy with Personal Best’s both achieved.

In the men’s race the front runners Ger Forde (Slaney Olympic), Nial Sheil (St. Killian’s) & Paul Lynch (SBR), set off at a blistering pace in the late evening sunshine. Their 10km course meant attacking that same 2.5 km stretch of hills twice. First home was Ger Forde, with Niall Sheil in hot pursuit and Paul Lynch was also a convincing 3rd place. KAC men also running were Michael O’Flaherty, who led our contingent home with an impressive time (38:36) for 32nd place, Adrian Reville, 54th (45:51) and Kevin Walsh, 61st (52:43). Unfortunately, Nicky Foley was unavailable due to injury.

Well done all on excellent performances on another hot and hilly course this year. Thanks to Wexford Marathon Club for hosting a well organised event. (Photo of 8 members of women’s teams included).

SCHOOLS TRACK AND FIELD – It was a glorious day in the Morton Stadium, Santry on Wednesday last for the Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Track and Field Day 1. Our club had one athlete competing, Eimear Fortune in the Junior Girls 800m for Loreto Wexford. Before this race Eimear’s PB was around the 2:35 mark dating back to her appearance in the Leinster indoors in March this year. However yesterday she broke 2:30 finishing in a time of 2:27:44.

In fact Eimear finished 4th in the race overall an outstanding achievement, finishing ahead of the girl who beat her in the South Leinsters and in doing so hit all of coach Fiona Kehoe’s 3 pre race targets. In what turned out to be quite a bittersweet moment, Eimear’s time was only 0.01 seconds off 3rd place and a photo finish was required to determine the result. Between 2nd and 4th only 0.4 of a second seperated them. Saying that Eimear ran the race of her life yesterday. The battling spirit she displayed was titanic and I have no doubt she’ll come back even stronger from the 4th place finish. With the County 800m on the 27th of May and the Leinster 800m in mid June Eimear certainly has an exciting summer of running ahead. The future looks very, very promising. (Photo included)

LEINSTER JUVENILE RELAYS – Well done to our relay teams who competed at the Leinster relay championships in Enniscorthy. We had 5 teams competing with our u15 girls making it into the final.

Results: U11 Girls: 5th in heat (1:09:39)–Emma Power, Ava Barry, Amy Burton & Rayna Thompson U12 Girls: 6th in heat (1:05:79)–Niamh O’Flaherty, Katie Foley, Rayna Thompson & Aine Fortune U13 Girls: 7th in heat (1:04:11)–Aine Fortune, Niamh O’Flaherty, Freya Thompson & Niamh Fortune U14 Girls: 7th in heat (1:00:11)–Dawn McKenna, Kate O’Flaherty, Niamh Fortune & Arwyn Thompson U15 Girls: 8th in final (56.74)–Eimear Fortune, Katelyn Boggan, Dawn McKenna and Arwyn Thompson

Next weekend sees Day 2 of the County Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Enniscorthy. After a strong Day 1 where Kilmore AC athletes took home a total of 10 medals, hopefully there is more to come.

BRIDGETOWN PLC COURSE

Bridgetown College invite applications for our course as an introductory course to Information Technology Skills or as an advanced course where skills can be refined and updated.

Our PLC students enjoy a relaxed learning atmosphere which is totally different to the Leaving Certificate regime, where team teaching and self-guided learning are encouraged as well as tuition on a one-to-one basis. Learners work at their own pace to take on as much or as little of the course as they require. It is possible, in consultation with tutors, to complete the course over two years providing a chance for parents/ students/mature learners to complete four modules each year on a reduced timetable.

We are also keen to accept applications from students who did not progress to college following their Leaving Certificate exam in 2017 or previous years. Often students need a year out of the system to contemplate their future careers. We believe that this time is best spent on the PLC Course, thereby offering students the chance to improve their IT skills and prepare for the demands of further education with regard to preparing assignments, reports, projects in University or College.

We also accept applications from students who dropped out of school prior to the Leaving Certificate and offer an opportunity for all students to complete these PLC modules with supervised tuition tailored to the needs of each individual. No prior learning is necessary as all modules are taught on the basis that everyone is starting from the beginning.

All places are filled on a first come first served basis so please apply now rather than waiting until September.
