ROSSLARE SUMMER MEMORIES

-

Rosslare is the star of the show at a solo exhibition by award-winning plein air artist Jane Meyler in the Pigyard Gallery in Selskar, Wexford.

The exhibition which was officially opened by guest speaker Laura Kelly, manager of Kelly’s Resort Hotel, reflects the experience of over 50 summers happily spent in Rosslare Strand.

As a landscape artist, she has retraced her childhood summers in the area from the Burrow to Bearlough, up to Rosehill and in between, and conjured up memories of the past through her paintings.

Jane now resides in the family cottage on Cliff Road overlooking Rosslare Bay where she has her studio and feels blessed to call the seaside village home.

A self-taught artist, she works primarily in oil and pastel. She has a love of drawing in graphite or anything that will leave a mark, drawing from life being the substance of her learning to paint.

Growing up in a home full of instruments and surrounded by a love of music, Jane plays also music and practices tunes on her mandolin before she ever puts paint to brush, encouraging a flow of energy and imparting rhythm and soul into her canvas.

Her inspiration derives from the changing high skies and sea, the ebbing tide, full moon and breaking dawn and the light that floods through her front window.

‘Often the best part of the day vanishes before I have time to open the front door, but there, to greet me always, is nature’s inspiration, everyday the same scene yet always in a different light. I count my blessings’, she says.
