STREETFEST

Blackwater Tidy Towns are organising the second Blackwater Street Fest in the church Carpark on Sunday, June 17, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, refreshments, snacks and treats for the kids. The idea of Street Fest is to catch up with neighbours and have a bit of craic.

GAA CLUB NOTES

There wasn’t much action last week due to the shock and sad passing of Peter Molloy. This larger-than-life personality had brightened our horizons since joining our club in 1998. As a player, trainer, coach, supporter Peter was of the positive, passionate, committed variety.

Peter spent the first six years of his life in Fulham before relocating to Oylegate. He was a noted hurler and footballer with Oylegate-Glenbrien winning numerous underage county titles in both codes. He also secured County Junior B Titles in football (1990) and hurling (1991).

On joining Blackwater in 1998 he wore the Green and Gold with distinction winning three Wexford District Junior B hurling titles and the 1999 Division 2 All County Football League Title, defeating volunteers in Oylegate (photo). Only two years ago he played for the Ballyvaloo Nigglers when they won the inaugural Michael Murphy Memorial Cup in the Blackwater Parish League.

In bidding farewell to a friend, teammate, clubman, neighbor, companion, sportsman we offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Josephine, daughters Julia, Maura and Clara; his mother Maura; his brother, Jim and to Murphy family, Ballinagore. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

A quiz is taking place this Friday night in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel starting at 9 p.m.

The Rackard League team enjoyed a great day playing at half time in the Offaly v Wexford match. They also got to meet the great Buff Egan. They defeated Horeswood in the Roinn B Quarter Final last Thursday. Rackard League Roinn B quarter final. Scorers Joe Rossiter 2-6, Ciaran Byrne 0-2, C Sammon 0-1, Daragh Byrne 0-1, U O’Reilly 0-1, Killian Murphy 1-0

Feidhlim Roche played corner back and Tomas Murphy played at centre forward for the Wexford minors in their three point loss to Dublin recently. Patrick O’Connor made an appearance from the bench. They now qualify for the Leinster Hurling Quarter final.

The intermediate hurlers enjoyed a good win against Ballygarrett, winning 3-17 to 0-16 in the league. Topar, Diarmuid and Aaron Culleton with the goals.

Ciaran Cash played with St Peter’s in the first year Leinster football final but lost out to Good Council.

The under-13 hurlers will play Glynn-Barntown at 7.30 at home this evening. On Thursday the junior v hurlers play Marshalstown in Farmleigh at 8 p.m. Then on Sunday morning the Leinster League Hurling final against Eire Óg Chorra Choill from Kildare at 2 p.m. in Athy.
