COMMUNITY GAMES

Barntown Parish Youth Choir, after competing in the regional final of the Community Games in Bree, made it through to the national final down in Limerick on Sunday, May 27. After an early morning start, the choir of 15 children put in an amazing performanc­e and were crowned all-Ireland silver medalists.

Many thanks to the parents who accompanie­d the children on the day and for their ongoing support and help with supervisio­n week after week. Thank you also to Aoife Duggan for acting as Community Games liaison. Finally, a huge thank you to Ann Stamp the Choir Master for her dedication and commitment to the children and the choir since its inception – without her, none of this would have been possible.

The parish choir will finish up for the summer on Sunday, June 3, and will reform in September when they will hold a recruitmen­t night for new members from fourth class primary up to sixth year secondary.

GLYNN NS Glynn 5k: The Glynn 5K will take place on Sunday, June 17, at midday, starting at Glynn Hall. Runners, walkers and joggers are all welcome. Online entry at GoRun.ie. Registrati­on will also take place in Glynn School from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 8, and after Mass in Glynn Parish Hall on Saturday and Sunday, June 2, and three. Cost is €10 per adult before June 8 and €15 on the day/ night before. There will be a 2k race on the day for children aged 7-15 years. Cost for this is €5 and includes an ice cream voucher. Cash prizes for first, second and third place in both male and female. Spot prizes, refreshmen­ts, music and a raffle in Glynn Parish Hall after the run. All proceeds will go towards the constructi­on of a new PE hall for the children of Glynn NS and the wider community.

Split-the-pot: The second winner of the split-the-pot is Alan Moran. Both of Alan’s children attend the school. The jackpot was €293. Congratula­tions, Alan. split-the-pot envelopes are available in Declan’s, Marty B’s, Mace (Killurin), Killeens, Selskar Pharmacy, Sherwood’s Pharmacy, County Council Offices and in the school. Rackard League: Our hurling team were narrowly defeated by Piercestow­n in the quarter final. Well done to the camogie team who defeated Bannow in the quarter final.

Rounders: The annual Celine Crean Rounders tournament in co-operation with Barntown school will take place on Wednesday, June 6, in Killurin. Many thanks to Glynn-Barntown GAA Club for the use of their facilities.

Visit from an Author: June Molloy, author of Guardian of Giria, visited the school recently to talk about her writing. The children from third to sixth class really enjoyed her visit.

TRACTOR RUN

A date for your diary – The annual Glynn Tractor Run will take place on Sunday, July 1. Funds raised are for the upkeep of our community centre. More details to follow closer to the date.

COISTE NA NÓG

Hard luck to our under-13 hurlers defeated by Oulart-The Ballagh away on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday evening it was the turn of our under-nines who played some super football against Horeswood away. Our Rising Stars under-15 team had an impressive win over Naomh Eanna on Thursday 3-9 to 0-1 in Gorey.

UNDER-SIX ACADEMY

Our under-six academy continues each Saturday morning 10.15 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Open to boys and girls age 4-6. Bring a hurl and helmet and come try it out.

COFFEE MORNING

Coiste, camogie and Ladies’ Football combine to present a coffee morning with a twist on Sunday, June 10, Our ‘Dads serving Coffee’ event invites the ladies of the parish to take a seat while the very eager Dads take over the role. Donations of cakes/buns that morning to the clubhouse will be very much appreciate­d. Any Dad wishing to offer their serving/washing skills will be welcomed. All welcome to drop in for a cuppa.

EXAM WISHES

Glynn-Barntown Senior, Coiste, camogie, Ladies’ Football and Tennis Clubs unite in wishing all our young friends sitting State exams over the next couple of weeks the very best of luck. Remember you are welcome to make full use of the facilities for a walk, run or just a well deserved break at any time.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Under-12 Ladies’ Football Report: This week it was the under-12 White team’s turn to don the jerseys as they took on Kilanerin at home. It was an exciting and tight match. Glynn-Barntown fought hard and took the first and second quarters, however Kilanerin piled on the pressure, levelling out the score at the end of the third quarter. The girls started the final quarter with a fire in their bellies and determinat­ion etched on their faces. Glynn-Barntown battled on to take the win at the final whistle. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

SVP is currently seeking new members for the Hospital Visitation Conference. Members visit in pairs, by prior arrangemen­t, to Nursing Homes in the Wexford area every fortnight for one hour. Our visits are conducted under the auspices of St Vincent de Paul and involve warm conversati­on, chat and a friendly smile. The visit does not involve practical support other than the gift of time.

TARA VILLA CHILDCARE

Tara Villa Childcare is now enrolling for September 2018. We are offering two free ECCE Preschool/Montessori years for children from two years eight months up to school-going age. Places are limited so please contact us to ensure your child’s place.
