Motorist’s ill-advised manoeuvres prove costly

-

ILL-ADVISED overtaking manoeuvres cost motorist Peter Sinnott (25) of 8 Monastery Avenue, Taghmon €700 by way of fines imposed at Wexford District Court.

The defendant was convicted on the double of careless driving after Judge Gerard Haughton heard evidence from Garda John Rackard.

The garda told how he was off duty when driving in The Faythe on the morning of November 10 in 2016 when traffic was held up by a coal lorry which was making a delivery.

Sinnott’s response was to overtake the witness in a careless manner before turning on to the main Rosslare road where he drove across hatched markings as he passed out another road user.

Solicitor Cormac Dunleavy pleaded with the court for his client to be allowed retain his licence as Sinnott drives a van in the course of his employment. Judge Haughton spared the defendant a disqualification but handed down two fines of €350 each.
