School start­ing fundrais­ing drive for PE hall with en­er­getic 5k run

RUN­NERS, WALK­ERS and jog­gers are be­ing en­cour­aged to sign up for the Glynn 5K which takes place on June 17, and which will raise vi­tal funds for the con­struc­tion of a PE Hall for the lo­cal na­tional school.

On­line reg­is­tra­tion is open through GoRun.ie.

Cost is €15 on the day or night be­fore. There will be cash prizes of €100, €75, and €50 for the first, se­cond and third, male and fe­male run­ners.

There will also be a 2K race on the day for chil­dren aged seven to 15 which will cost €5 and in­cludes an ice-cream voucher.

There will be re­fresh­ments, spot prizes, mu­sic and a raf­fle in the parish hall af­ter the event. All pro­ceeds will go to­wards the con­struc­tion of a new PE hall for the chil­dren of Glynn NS and the wider com­mu­nity.

School prin­ci­pal Joe Ryan ex­plained that the school be­gan a fundrais­ing cam­paign at around Easter time and they are aim­ing to raise €200,000 as they will re­ceive no as­sis­tance for the Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion for the build­ing costs.

So far, the school has set up a Buy a Block scheme, and is also run­ning a suc­cess­ful Split the Pot weekly draw.
