School starting fundraising drive for PE hall with energetic 5k run
RUNNERS, WALKERS and joggers are being encouraged to sign up for the Glynn 5K which takes place on June 17, and which will raise vital funds for the construction of a PE Hall for the local national school.
Online registration is open through GoRun.ie.
Cost is €15 on the day or night before. There will be cash prizes of €100, €75, and €50 for the first, second and third, male and female runners.
There will also be a 2K race on the day for children aged seven to 15 which will cost €5 and includes an ice-cream voucher.
There will be refreshments, spot prizes, music and a raffle in the parish hall after the event. All proceeds will go towards the construction of a new PE hall for the children of Glynn NS and the wider community.
School principal Joe Ryan explained that the school began a fundraising campaign at around Easter time and they are aiming to raise €200,000 as they will receive no assistance for the Department of Education for the building costs.
So far, the school has set up a Buy a Block scheme, and is also running a successful Split the Pot weekly draw.
