THERE is widespread shock and sadness in Wexford following the unexpected death of 45-year old Barry Asple of Deerpark, Murrintown who passed away last Thursday.

A beloved son of well-known Wexford accountant Denis Asple and his wife Bertha, owner of Barker’s shop on South Main Street, Barry is survived by his parents, his brother Stefan, his sister-in-law, nieces and nephew,by his aunts, uncles, cousins, his extended family and a wide circle of friends.

A former student of Clongowes Wood College, Barry was a graduate of the Shannon College of Hotel Management, a former manager of Asple’s pub on Crescent Quay and was also involved in running the well-known Barker’s shop for a time.

The Shannon College of Hotel Management Alumni posted a message on their website, expressing deep sadness on learning of the Wexfordman’s death.

It described Barry as a member of the Class of 1997 and said their thoughts are with his family, friends and classmates at this very difficult time.

Barry reposed at his parents’ residence at Kildavin Lodge in Deerpark, Murrintown on Saturday afternoon before funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church in Galbally on Sunday afternoon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. His family requested that instead of flowers, people could make donations, if desired, to Wexford Mental Health.
