Autumn start for park by text
PARKING by text is on the way in Wexford’s four main towns after the County Council signed a contract with a company to begin offering the service from September, allowing motorists to use their mobile phones to pay parking charges.
Council chairman John Hegarty and Director of Services Eamonn Hore signed a contract with Sean O’Dwyer IT Director and Andrew Cosgrove, Marketing Manager of of parkbytext to bring e-parking to Gorey, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Wexford towns.
The parkbytext app allows people to pay for parking by mobile phone and also to ‘top up’ parking time without having to rush back to their car to avoid incurring a fine - they can use the app to make a further payment and the parking fee is instantly updated.
Eamonn Hore congratulated parkbytext on winning the tender for the project in County Wexford following a detailed procurement process. Work is expected to start on the service in the coming weeks with a ‘go live’ date set for September.
Outlining the benefits for the retail and tourism sectors, Mr. Hore offered the reassurance that the new method of parking payment will complement, not replace, the existing parking meter system. ‘It simply offers an alernative and easy-to-use payment methods to those who use our parking services’, he said.
Cllr. Hegarty said Wexford has always been a progressive county and the Council is constantly looking for new ways to improve services to the public, particularly in the use of modern technology.
‘Parkbytext is a perfect example, using technology to improve services and offer additional convenience, flexibility and peace of mind to people who work in or visit our main towns’, he said.
Sean O’Dwyer of parkbytext said the company is delighted to extend its service to County Wexford people. ‘How it works is very simple - you can choose to pay by text, app, online or phone. It offers benefits such as no more searching for coins, extending your parking transaction and creating business accounts etc’.
