Double delight for Janefield Poppy in winning week

THERE WAS a good crowd in attendance at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track on Saturday for the Enniscorthy Credit Union gala race night despite the chilly evening.

Action on the track was hot with some very good times recorded in the feature event, the semi-finals of the Burgess Brandy Bitch sweepstake.

The fastest run of the night was recorded over the standard distance when reserve Janefield Poppy broke well from her trap one box to lead before going on to score a convincing win in a good 28.81 in the first semi.

She was following up a win from the night before at Shelbourne Park and is now the likely favourite for this Thursday night’s final.

The second semi was a much closer-run thing as Spot The Rocket led from her trap two box, with Telex Brat in close attendance into the first bend.

Telex went through on the inside off the second bend to lead with Spot in chase and, as they turned for the judge, Spot The Rocket put in her final bid close to the line to get up and score from the latter in a time of 29.15.

Both sprint races were won in sub-19 second times as firstly Jojo On Air was very fast away in race two, an S2/3 sprint, to score his eleventh race win in 18.77.

The second sprint race, an open grade, saw Piercestown Lord record his seventh win from 13 outings when running out a snug victor in a time of 18.99.

Race nine, an A1 over 550 yards, saw a good performance from Flying Lola who has been running well of late. She got her reward after a good break to lead, and she was a very good three-length winner in a fast 30.04.

Race ten saw a return to winning ways for Suzies Daisy who broke well and was always in control as she scored a snug victory, her sixth, in a useful 29.06.
