Choir celebratin­g 30 years of song

A SPECIAL concert, taking place at St Iberius Church on Thursday evening, will celebrate 30 years of the Wexford Ladies Choir.

The Midsummer Night’s Concert will feature the musical talents of the ladies choir, and also welcome special guests Ciara Cullinane (soprano), Aileen Donohoe (mezzo soprano) and Mollie Carroll (harpist), performing a variety of numbers.

Wexford Ladies Choir was founded in 1988 by Jean Callaghan, who is now the President of the group, and Nicholas Clancy, who acted as musical director for many years.

Over the past three decades, the group has travelled to Wales on many occasions and performed with the Welsh Ladies and Male Choirs.The group has performend with many talented Wexford singers over the years.

The group holds concerts in Wexford town twice a year and regularly sings at Masses in town, county and country. They also perform at charity and fundraisin­g events.

The choir caters for ladies of all ages who like to sing. The current musical director is Greg Currid, who previously held that role with the Male Voice Choir.

The choir meets every Tuesday night, starting back in September, at 7.30 p.m. in the Wexford Male Voice Choir Hall on Spawell Road. All are welcome to attend. For more informatio­n, call 089 243 2689.

The 30th anniversar­y concert takes place on Thursday at 8 p.m. Tickets are €10 and will be available on the door on the night, or on Thursday morning at St Iberius Church.
