BallymoreMayglass BALLYCOGLEY PLAYERS

Our very last performance of our all-Ireland winning play ‘The Night Alive’ took place recently in the Dun Mhuire Theatre. Proceeds on the night were in aid of the Wexford Rape Crisis Centre and we were privileged to support such a worthy cause.

Thank you to the wonderful audience who supported us on the night. We have had a fantastic experience over the last 10 months with this production and are very grateful to all our outstanding supporters, sponsors, families and friends who were on board with us along this special journey.

It was an extra special night for the group as Mayor Jim Moore honoured us with a civic reception for the tremendous achievements in drama over the past 43 years.

After our performance in Dun Mhuire, we enjoyed a great night among family and friends over drinks and refreshments in the Talbot Hotel.

We would like to wish our lighting techinican Nick Hayes a speedy recovery from his recent accident. Get well soon Nick, you’re in all our thoughts.

STRICTLY CLUB DANCING

Dust off the dancing shoes and gladrags, its back. St Fintan’s Strictly Club Dancing returns this coming autumn and we are calling on all ages in the parish to get involved.

Dance coaching will be provided and plenty of laughs and fun is an absolute guarantee. An added twist this year with some local rivalry on the dance floor as we go head to head with St Mary’s GAA Rosslare.

Anyone interested in getting involved contact Sharon at 086 1787498 or talk to any of the club committee.

FREE FOOTBALLS

Pettitt’s SuperValu St Aidan’s will again this year supply free footballs to each under-eight player in the St Fintan’s GAA Club. A box bearing the name St Fintan’s will be placed at the checkout area of the supermarket and those of us shopping are asked to place our support your local club docket in the box.

0A docket is received for each €20 spent and on reaching the value of 2000 dockets the balls will be presented as last year. Please support.

GAA CLUB LOTTO

It is now easier than ever to play the Fintan’s club lotto and never miss a draw by signing up to a 10-week subscription for €15. Subscription forms are available at most training sessions or contact Sharon at 086 1787498 to sign up. Club lotto provides vital finances for the club which allow us to continue to maintain and develop clubground facilities and your support of the lotto is very much appreciated. The jackpot now stands at €11,800 and there is also a match-three prize of €200 up for grabs each week. The numbers drawn last week were 11, 12, 13 and 31. Many thanks for your continued support.

ON COUNTY TEAM

Donal Shanley was the only St Fintan’s player to feature with the Wexford senior football team that suffered a defeat to neighbours Waterford in a round one qualifier played in Innovate Wexford Park. Donal contributed nine points of the Wexford total 1-18 and it was also pleasing to hear the games pundits mention the fact of how much the team missed the steadying influence and leadership qualities of the now injured St Fintan’s man Jim Rossitter. This defeat ends the Wexfords teams particapation in this year’s all-Ireland championship.

CLUB GAA ACTION

Action on the playing fields has been somewhat limited as far as the St Fintan’s men are concerned receiving a walkover from Clonard in Div.7 of the EEW and plumbing ACHL and playing a challenge game versus Glynn-Barntown in Ballymore on Tuesday evening last. The adult ladies also saw little competitive action scoring a convincing 2-15 to 0-05 victory over Bannow-Ballymitty in its only game in Div.4 of the adult league.

Congratulations to the Women’s Master’s Team of Helen Doyle, Jackie Carthy and Sinéad O’Brien in the County Final 4km at the Mr Oil County Masters Road Race in Ferns. Not only winning first place in the Team’s section, KAC also won first and second individual for Helen Doyle and Jackie Carthy respectively. In particular, Helen provided us with a spectacular sprint finish to secure her silver medal. Other female runners included Fidelma Rossiter and Suzanne Foley, who ran steady races also. Suzanne shook off her 10km PB last weekend for half the distance and more speed.

The men also gave a good account of themselves in their 6km run on a windless evening with ‘secretive’ slopes on course. KAC men running tonight were: Micheál Flaherty, Niall Crosbie, Nicky Foley, Adrian Reville and Kevin Walsh. Well done also lads.

Ladies 4km: First – Jackie Carthy (15:23). Second – Helen Doyle (16:22). Seventh – Sinéad O’Brien (16:50). 12th – Fidelma Rossiter (17:12). 28th – Suzanne Foley (19:54). Men’s 6km: 25th – Michael O’Flaherty (22: 37). 37th – Niall Crosbie (24:32). 42nd – Nicky Foley (25:19). 44th – Adrian Reville (25:35). 60th – Kevin Walsh (31:20).

Leinster under-12 and under-13 Championships – Congratulations to Katie Foley our sole representative at the Leinster under-12 and under-13 Championships today in Tullamore. Katie did her family and club very proud running a great under-12 600m race in a time of 2:18.

Next weekend will be another busy one for Kilmore AC. On Saturday Fiona Kehoe will be in action in the Irish Miler’s Club Le Cheile International 800m in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Good luck Fiona. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Kilmore ARA members had a most enjoyable day in Dublin on Tuesday the 12th where they visited the National Museum and Dail Eireann.

Certainly the museum is well worthy of a visit for anybody who hasn’t been there before while the visit to the Dail and Seanad was an education in itself. We have to thank our TD James Bowne who made the arrangements for the visit and also for his hospitality for the lunch which was greatly appreciated.

We are now in summer recess except for tenpin bowling on Mondays at Leisuremax at 10.30 a.m. and we have a trip being planned for Lismore and environs in July, more about this later.
