First new rural night buses are on the road

- By ANNA HAYES

BUS USERS in the Rosslare, Wellingtonbridge and Wexford town area will be the first to benefit from newly announced night services on their route.

Local Link Wexford, who operate the community bus scheme, have secured Nash Minibus and Coach Hire Ltd as the new operator of the Route 387, that services Rosslare Harbour, Strand and Wexford town, stopping in Kilrane, Tagoat and Killinick along the way.

The 387 is one of the services in Wexford that has been extended to offer night services on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. A bus will now leave Wexford at 11.30 p.m. while it will return from Rosslare Harbour at 12.08 a.m. The team at Local Link hopes that this service will suit those working in the hospitality sector, as well as those using the bus to socialise in either area.

The service also has early morning services out to the Europort which accommodates anyone taking the morning ferry, while the return service into town will suit those working or attending training or education as it arrives in Wexford just after 08.30 a.m.

Similarly, the 388 bus from Wellingtonbridge to Wexford is also offering a night service on Fridays and Saturdays, leaving Wellingtonbridge at 10.40 p.m. and returning from The Faythe in Wexford town at 11.30 p.m.

The evening services are part of a pilot initiative announced by the National Transport Authority, the aim being to create a comprehensive public transport system in local areas, linking towns and villages. Wexford will have 12 evening services running, the highest number in any area in the country. The remaining services are expected to commence over the coming weeks.
