Awards and farewells for end of school year
TWO LONG-SERVING staff members at the Our Lady of Fatima school in Wexford town enjoyed a joint retirement party, surrounded by their colleagues at a meal in the Talbot Hotel.
Joan Flanagan, one the school’s class teachers, took early retirement after working in the school for eleven years, having worked in various different schools prior to that. Originally from Dublin, she now lives in Wexford with her family and school principal Rita Waters said she planned to spend some time travelling.
Willie Roche was the caretaker in the school for 21 years. Born and bred in Wexford, he enjoyed his retirement party and intends to devote his time to cycling. Ms Waters explained that Willie was involved with two local cycling clubs and was likely to spend ‘every spare minute’ on his bike! She believed he was planning a few cycling trips abroad.
Presentations were made to both staff members and Ms Waters wished them a fond farewell, wishing them a long, healthy and happy retirement.
Earlier in the day, the school had enjoyed their annual awards ceremony, which acknowledged the academic and sporting achievements of pupils.
