IRISH NIGHT

The next Irish night will take place in the Anvil pub on Friday, July 27. Why not come along and join in the craic, everyone welcome.

PHOENIX ARCHERS

We are an archery club shooting under the governing body Archery Ireland. We are open to new members from eight years old to 100 years young. Archery is a fun challengin­g sport for all ages and abilities. We have fully qualified coaches to help get you started. We shoot both indoors and outdoors for training and competitio­ns.

Our current indoor venue is based in Ballymurn Hall. We train on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Glynn-Barntown PLAY AREA UPDATE

The Tara Villa Childcare toy sale and coffee morning raised €1,000 towards a new Barntown Community Play Area. Thank you to all for coming along and supporting the community event. The coffee, chat and ideas flowed. Congratula­tions to Spot Prize Winners – Heike Huelswitt (Sebz Restaurant Voucher), James Whitty (Surf Shack Lesson), Una O’Dowd, Lyndsey Murphy, Lorraine Galvin, Emma Nolan and Sheila Furlong.

COMMUNITY CENTRE

Following some redecorati­on, Barntown Community Centre is now open for bookings. Any group or individual wishing to book the hall or a meeting room can contact any of our committee members or Jimmy Dempsey at 086 3858429 who will be able to advise on available times.

GLYNN NS Congratula­tions to our camogie team who recently won the Rackard League.

We were delighted to welcomed me back our past pupil Bridget Coalman, who won medals last week in the Special Olympics. She performed her routines for the whole school and met one of her heroes, Matthew O’Hanlon, joint captain of the Wexford senior hurling team. Congratula­tions, Bridget – we are so proud of you.

CONDOLENCE­S

The community would like to extend deepest sympathy to the Hayden family, Barntown on the recent loss of their loving dad/ husband Tony. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at the sad time. Tony, rest in peace.

TRACTOR RUN

The recent Tractor Run held in Glynn was an outstandin­g success. Thank you to all our sponsors for their donations, to our volunteers who helped out on the day and provided us with goodies thanks to all those who took part and last but not least, a special thank-you to Fr Stafford, who – as always – is a tremendous­ly supportive and accommodat­ing with all of our parish initiative­s. A massive €1,225 was raised which will go towards the Community Hall in Glynn.

SPLIT THE POT

CAMOGIE

The sun was splitting the trees and not a breeze to be had on the pitch in Killurin on Friday night as the under-12 White team took on Buffers Alley in what was a great match to watch. Despite Glynn-Barntown’s best efforts Buffers Alley B team emerged as winners. Score 1-1 to 1-6. Thanks to referee Tony Butler.

Best of luck to our senior camogie team who open their championsh­ip in Rathnure on Tuesday evening next at 7.30 p.m.

COISTE NA NÓG

Hard luck to our under-15 footballer­s defeated by Sarsfields last Thursday evening. Our under-nines played great football at the Football on the Quay event last Saturday morning. Our under-17 footballer­s notched up a fine win over Cloughbawn this week on a scoreline of 4-10 to 2-9.

SENIOR GAA

Well done to our senior footballer­s who had a comfortabl­e win over Horeswood in Killurin on Sunday eve to book a place in the league final with a score of 3-13 to 1-9.

Our Junior hurlers turned their championsh­ip game around on Tuesday evening to take the win. In a fantastic revival they came back from a nine point half time deficit to defeat Our Lady’s Island. Final score 1-19 to 2-12.

It was absolute heartbreak for the Wexford under-21s in Portlaoise on Wednesday evening following a one point defeat in extra time by a last minute Galway goal. The boys are still in championsh­ip however and we wish Rowan, Davy and mentor Shane and their teammates the very best of luck v Cork.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Glynn-Barntown Ladies’ Football Club will hold a clothes collection commencing the week of July 22 till July 30 as a fundraisin­g activity.

Please bring good quality clothing and paired shoes suitable for re-wear, men’s, woman’s and children’s clean clothing, paired shoes, handbags, underwear, accessorie­s (hats, belts). They should be put into black bags and put in one of the dressing rooms beside the gym (follow the signs). A great way to get rid of all that clutter.

Parks tennis will run in Killurin from July 2 to July 27. Six to nine years 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. – Fees €18 for two wks; €25 for three wks and €30 for four weeks. 10-16 years 10.30-midday. Oylegate ICA GUILD NEWS

Congratula­tions to Oylegate ICA who came third overall in the Special Occasions competitio­n held in Kilanerin. Oylegate came first in the Bakewell Tray Bake, second with Apron and third with Flowers. Oylegate also won the Mether Trophy for the most points at Federation competitio­ns for the year.

MOBILE LIBARARY

The mobile library will be in the village on Monday, July 30, from 4.25 p.m. to 5 p.m. The service is available to all. The mobile will be in the village monthly from September.

Congratula­tions to Darra Casey, who won two Leinster Titles in the under-16 100 metre and 200 metre hurdles recently.

OYLEGATE UNITED AGM

Oylegate United will hold their AGM on Monday, July 16, at 9 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. We encourage all adult players, parents of schoolboys/ schoolgirl­s and anyone with an interest in soccer to attend the meeting.

BINGO

Bingo has recently started in the Slaney Inn on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. with many cash prizes on offer. Oylegate Utd are the local charity currently benefiting on the night and would like to invite all interested to come along for a great night, and all support would be greatly appreciate­d.

Hard luck to Séamus Casey, Shane and Damien Reck, Mike Kelly and the Wexford panel who were very unlucky to lose by a point in the Leinster final on Wednesday evening last.

The Ballagh BOXING WINNER

Congratula­tions to Ryan Cullen from the Ballagh Boxing Club, who was a the winner in the recent Monkstown Cup 60kg competitio­n.

HURLING 365

Thank you and well done to Shane Reddy, the teachers and principal Darren Nolan and all involved with the 365 Hurling in the Ballagh School. It was a massive success with between 30 to 40 children taking part each week. Last Wednesday was the last day and the children were all given a cert and some refreshmen­ts to mark the occasion. A big thank you to all the parents/guardians, coaches, club members and anyone who helped in any way making it such a success. Thanks also to Shaun Murphy for taking the time to attend the training and handing out the certs to the children. The children really enjoyed the past few months and they look forward to 365 Hurling again next year.

FUNDRAISIN­G

Joan Kavanagh and friends are holding a coffee morning in the Crosses, Kilmuckrid­ge on Sunday, July 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in aid of ‘Touched by Suicide’. Admission is only three euro and there will be Door Prizes and a raffle.
