MAGNIFICENT SEVEN ENJOY FIRST EVER YOUTHREACH GRAD

- By ANNA HAYES

WEXFORD Youthreach celebrated a milestone in their history when they hosted their first ever graduation ball for seven students who completed their Leaving Cert Applied this year.

The group of students, who are from all over Wexford, were told earlier in the year of the plan to hold an end of year celebration as an incentive to see out their studies.

Leaving Cert Applied Coordinator Sinead Breen said she organised the event, remarking: ‘A lot of our studnets are people who left education and this is their second chance. They never got the graduation experience like others in their class so the grad was an enticing offering.’

Paul Ford (Castlebridge), Megan Gillyland (Rosslare), Jack Furlong (Castlebridge), Niamh Sinnott (Bree), Chelsea Sinnott, Wiktoria Borchardt, and Abby Walsh (all Wexford town) completed their Leaving Cert Applied during the recent State Exams.

All of the group are continuing their studies in the future with people taking up places in NUI Maynooth, Waterford Further Education, Enniscorthy PLC, VTOS, Youthtrain and apprenticeships.

‘All of the students are progressing and are chomping at the bit to continue their education. The only problem now is that I have the LCA1 group telling me that they want a grad as well!’ Ms Breen laughed.

The group enjoyed a meal and an evening of socialising with Ms Breen and the Youthreach Coordinator Phil O’Mahony. The group will get their exam results in August.
