Big anniversary celebration planned for Caroreigh field day

-

CAROREIGH Field Day will take place at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, and the organisers have worked hard at ensuring it will be one of the best ever as the event celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

A spokesperson for the organising committee outlined to this newspaper some of the attractions set for inclusion.

‘All the usual fun of the fair is promised and as this is the 50th celebration it promises to be the best yet,’ she said.

She complimented the hard working committee members who are conscious of the tradition of entertainment that is associated with the event.

‘The ever-popular fancy dress will start at 1.30 p.m., led out by New Ross & District Pipe Band,’ said the spokesperson.

‘With secret meetings and hushed conversations going on there’s bound to be lots of amusing contenders for the prizes,’ she added.

The fancy dress event is always popular at the field day and never fails to entertain those in attendance.

There will also be a wide range of stalls on-site offering a broad mix of items including books, cakes, garden produce and crafts in addition to the Wheel of Fortune.

‘Along with the main raffle on the day there will also be a cake raffle,’ said the spokesperson.

‘If you’re not lucky enough to win the cake you can always pop inside for a welcome cup of tea and refreshments,’ she added.

For food lovers there will be a barbecue on-site and the shop will also be open all day serving chilled drinks, ice-cream and other items.

One of the special events taking place to mark the 50th anniversary will be a Tug of War contest as one was held on the first day the field day took place and the organisers want to mark that fact.

Amateur teams of eight - composed of six men and two women - are invited to register through 053-9134113 prior to the event and there will also be registration on the field from 1 p.m. with the competition taking place throughout the day.
