Castle rock with Something Happens, The 4 Of Us and Corner Boy

- By BRENDAN KEANE

ONE of the biggest local music concerts of the summer will take place on the grounds of St Martin’s GAA Club, in Piercestown, on Saturday, August 11.

The Castle Marquee gig will be held in the shadow of Johnstown Castle and organisers, Lantern Events, hope to make it an annual gig delivering top class acts at a reasonable price to the people of the county.

They’ve lived up to that promise with the lineup for the forthcoming inaugural event as it will be headlined by Something Happens and the 4 of Us while the opening act will be Wexford’s own Corner Boy.

With such a stellar line-up it promises to be one of the music highlights of the summer.

Corner Boy’s appearance will come on the back of a recent tour of South Korea and the set will feature well known songs such as ‘Morning, Morning’, ‘Ghost Town City’ and new single, ‘Good Bye Old Holy’.

The 4 of Us are Household names since the 1980s and the band has composed some of the most popular tunes to ever come out of Ireland including hits like ‘Mary’, ‘She Hits Me’ and ‘Drag My Bad Name Down’, which are sure to get the Wexford crowd going.

What will make the band’s gig all the more special is the fact it will be a full band performance which is something they don’t do that often anymore.

A spokesperson for Lantern Events commented: ‘The 4 OF Us do not perform very often with their full band, however, we are delighted to announce they will be performing with the full band for us in the Marquee.’

The final act on the night will be Something Happens fronted by the highly respected singer and radio broadcaster, Tom Dunne.

One of the most energetic bands on the national scene they don’t gig live very often anymore and the Lantern Events spokesperson said the organisation is very excited to have them appear in Wexford.

‘These guys are the most energetic band you are likely to see anytime soon and we are delighted that they have agreed to perform for us at this year’s event,’ he said.

Songs like ‘Hello, Hello’ and ‘Parachute’ were staples of mainstream radio in the late 80s and early 90s and earned the band a lot of praise from music fans and critics.

The Wexford gig will precede an appearance for both headline acts at the Feile Classic Gig in Semple Stadium, Thurles, in September.

Tickets for Live at the Castle, priced €26, are available online from www.lantern.ie or from the box office at 1 North Main Street, Wexford.

There will be a complementary Wexford Bus service leaving Redmond Square at 7 p.m. on the day and returning from the gig at 12.30 a.m.

There will be a limited number of seats available and the best advice for those wishing to avail of the service is to contact Wexford Bus on 053-9142742.

There will be a full bar and food van at the event and a taxi service will also be available.
