Pat loved the boys and he always found time for the craic with their parents and younger siblings too. He was 100% committed to supporting the boys and was always there to give a hand. Pat will be sadly missed by everyone. Our deepest sympathies go out to Bonnie, Cathal and Cillian as well as Pat’s family and wide circle of friends. May he rest in peace.

St Fintan’s GAA Club will be taking part in the ‘Dawn Walk’ again this year on Sunday, August 5. All members and supporters are invited to join in on the morning. Club and community standing together to support those among us suffering with mental health illness. Delighted to have our hurling wall murals completed. In association with Mayglass National School the club recently ran a ‘antibullying’ poster competition and the winning entry by Cora Sinnott and Amy Jackman is now proudly on show on our hurling wall. Promoting positive mental health and wellness is also very important to us and we encourage all members of our club and community to always look out for family, friends and teammates who may not seem themselves and to ask ‘are you ok?’ A GAA club is about so much more than hurling and football and we are very proud to promote positive behavior, inclusion, understanding and awareness among all our members.

Many thanks to Abi Way for her excellent work with the murals. Abi will be back next week to finish the wall with goals and targets for the greater enjoyment and development of all our members.

The minors played their second game of the championship l in Ballymore v Castletown, the girls started brightly and were ahead at the break by three points Castletown came out strong in the second half but our girls held strong unfortunately Castletown managed to break through and got some fine scores. This game is also banned by the authorities but is going ahead in defiance of the ban. The local gardaí won’t be happy. It will be performed in pageant format but a game nonetheless and should be hugely entertaining with possible interference from the authorities also. camogie was also banned then, so wait and see if a camogie game scheduled will suffer the same interference as the football or will it be allowed to start at all? Come along well dressed for the occasion, in 1918 style, and enjoy the games and be prepared to back up the teams against any interference, if the authorities do try to ban the games again.

TIDY TOWNS.

Our church gate collection on July 14/15 yielded just over €700 so we wish to say a huge thanks to everyone who contributed.

Litter control is going well but we always welcome help, extra time is being spent on watering and so far we are lucky to have harvested water available but it is under constant review.

Sadly we are getting a lot of complaints/comments on the terrible problem of dog dirt. What can we do except plead with dog owners to be responsible? It is a cause of great concern to the parents of little ones playing on the beach but also lots of people are complaining about the footpaths all around the village. We have requested further visits from the dog warden. There is also a growing habit of dog dirt bags being left on the footpaths or just pushed into the hedges and onto the sand dunes and this is truly disgusting.

As usual the majority of dog owners are responsible and it is the selfish exception who are causing the problems.

Please continue to mind your own patch, we thank the many people who are participating in this idea and we ask more to join in for the good of the village.
