COMMUNITY MOSAIC

The Community Mosaic was officially unveiled on Wednesday, July 18, in Tomhaggard Social Centre where a great crowd gathered representi­ng the groups who use the centre and the community.

It was officially unveiled by our local representa­tives Clr Jim Moore, chairman Waterford Wexford Educationa­l Board, Ger Carty Board Member and Michael Roche. Angela Byrne chairperso­n of Tomhaggard Women’s Shed thanked the WWETB for their funding for the project, Paddy Darrigan tutor who helped the 20 ladies who completed the Mosaic and the community who supplied tiles. Jim Moore, on behalf of WWETB congratula­ted the group on their achievemen­t and spoke of the support that the WWETB can give to communitie­s for training and towards projects. Following the unveiling everyone enjoyed refreshmen­ts provided by the Pastoral Council Ladies.

The Mosaic depicts aspects of the historic, cultural and current life of the village and surroundin­g areas. It has elements representi­ng the Penal Chapel, St Anne’s Well, Old Church, Mass Rock and Chalice, Farming, Linkstown, Saltee Islands, Wildlife, Sealife, Flora and Fauna and emblems representi­ng the main users of the Social Centre. It is a wonderful lasting piece of art which is placed at the heard of the community. There’s an Watercolou­r Art Exhibition running in conjunctio­n with Novena at the Social Centre of paintings from the Tomhaggard Art Class, under tutor Maria Murphy.

LEO CARTHY WEEKEND

August 4 – The festival opens with a variety concert at 8.30 in Our Lady’s Island Community hall. Another great nights entertainm­ent is expected with the likes of the Danescastl­e music group, George Lawlor, Brendan Wickham and friends, Trio, and Martina Keane. You will be sure to have a laugh on the night with comedy from the Ballycogle­y players. €10 admission with free refreshmen­ts at the interval.

August 5 – Starts with a 6km fun run starting at 12.30. Registrati­on from 11.30 in Oli Community Hall. Price €10 per adult and €5 per child with prizes for category winners and spot prizes. Refreshmen­ts will be served after the race and there will be kids entertainm­ent and live music on site.

Live music on the open air stage starts from one and runs to six with various well know local artists and a mumming exhibition with our good friends the Drinagh Mummers at 2.30 followed by Theresa and the stars. Refreshmen­ts will be available in the coffee shop. And we will have kids entertainm­ent with obstacle course bouncy castle, crazy golf, and face painting. Finally we are delighted to announce the return of the sheep racing which was a huge hit last year. Come and enjoy the free music and entertainm­ent in what promises to be a great family day out. All proceeds raised from the weekend will go towards the Irish Heart Foundation, the RNLI and various local voluntary groups.

GOLF SOCIETY

Former members of the now defunct St Fintan’s golf society are now planning a get together to relive memories of the past with a game of golf, a bite to eat and a few ‘jars’. Those interested in coming along please contact Pat Wright at 086 8572648 or Paddy McGuire at 087 9680419. We hope to hire a bus and wont be traveling too far so why not join us. ‘FORE’.

CLUB LOTTO

It is now easier than ever to play our weekly club lotto and never miss a draw by signing up to a 10-week subscripti­on for €15. Subscripti­on forms are available at most training sessions or contact Sharon at 086 1787498 to sign up. The jackpot now stands at €13,000 and there is also a match-three prize of €200 up for grabs each week since there was no match-three winner last week the match-three prize for the coming week will be €400. The numbers drawn last week were 13, 15, 31 and 32. Many thanks for your continued support.

KILLINICK PROJECT AGM

The Killinick project annual general meeting will be held on Monday, August 16, at 8 p.m. in the Merry Elf Killinick. The agenda is to provide a forum to get suggestion­s to improve the village. All welcome to attend.

PATRONS

The annual patrons of the parish will be held in Ballymore on Thursday, August 9, at 7.30 p.m. and in Mayglass on Friday, August 10, at 7.30 p.m.

ST FINTAN’S LADIES

The under-12 girls took to the field at home in ballymore in their last league game v Adamstown... unfortunat­ely things didn’t go to well for the girls and it was the visitors who left winners on score line 4-7 to 1-7... the girls will now await results of other games and will play a team from north division in the quarter finals in August... well done to all 18 Girls involved. Suzanne, Annmarie and all the girls would like to send their best wishes to Holly May and wish her a speedy recovery.

UNDERAGE GAA

The under-9s had a fantastic afternoon of football in Ferns Centre of Excellence in the recent past. The team played three games with everyone showing some great football skills and above all some great team work. Many thanks to all the parents for travelling and of course a huge thank you to Davy for taking charge on the day and ensuring everyone had a great day.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Halfway House Ballycogle­y is the place to be for music lovers over the bank holiday weekend. The local ‘HalfWay’ will host this year’s Wexford’s Ska Festival on Saturday, August 4, at 6 p.m. Why not come along for a fun evening.

CÚL CAMPS

The week of August 13 to August 17 will see St Fintan’s/Our Lady’s Island Coiste na nÓg host its first GAA Cúl Camp in Carne. You can register your child for the camp by going to kelloggscu­lcamps.gaa.ie where you will be given the option to have your child’s camp gear sent to your home pre-camp.
