County Wexford features in charity cycle
WEXFORD Hospice was one of the stopoff points on a charity cycle that saw five Bewley’s employees complete a 500km cycle around the country as part of the #coffee4hospice campaign.
The five, Eamonn Diver, Dylan Rafter, Jason Doyle, Ann Marie Raftice and Charlie Scull, set off on their trip on Thursday in the hope of raising much needed funds for Hospices nationwide.
The cycle was organised to coincide with Ireland’s biggest coffee morning for Hospice Together which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 20.
The cyclists hoped to raise €5,000 as they took in six counties over four days after beginning their trip at Bewley’s Head Office.
They visited the Hospices in Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford and Offaly before finally stopping off at Bewley’s own local Hospice in Raheny.
The team has strong Wexford connections too as Mr Diver’s wife, Liz, is from Rathnure while Mr Doyle’s in-laws live in Campile.
Ms Raftice’s mother is also originally from Wexford town.
Bewley’s Managing Director, Jason Doyle, said the company is proud to still sponsor the coffee morning initiative that began in 1933.
‘The annual cycle is an excellent opportunity for us to not only raise much needed funds but also visit the local hospices and see first-hand the essential work both staff and volunteers do and how vital these services are in the local community,’ he said.
Pat Quinlan, the Chairperson of the Voluntary Hospice group said fundraising is essential for the organisation to carry out its services across the country: ‘It ensures we can respond to the growing demand nationwide for hospice and homecare services.’
