ROWING clubs from across Co Wexford made the journey to Farran, Co Cork, recently to compete in the Irish Coastal Rowing Championship. Hosted by Rushbrooke rowing club, the event saw 21 clubs take part from Wexford, Cork, Donegal and Antrim.
335 crews competed at the event and The Slaney Rowing Association were represented by 21 crews with rowers from member clubs in Edermine Ferry, Killurin, St Kearns and Ferrycarrig. A large group of supporters also made the journey, hoping to bring some big prizes back to the sunny south east.
The Wexford Clubs were thrilled to bring home both Gold & Silver medals from the event with Killurin’s Intermediate Ladies crew, comprised of Eve Corcoran, Eleanor Nolan, Bridget Wickham & Caroline Stafford coxed by Richard Roche (St. Kearns) winning gold, and Edermine’s U14 Boys, comprised of Justin Kossell, Levi Rozsa, Sam Geraghty & Conor Walsh, coxed by Ruairi Murphy, winning silver in their respective Coastal Four categories, beating off tough competition from the other finalists with some nail-biting moments for their spectators.
More recently, 24 rowers from St Kearns and Edermine travelled to London to compete in the Thames Great River Race. All four crews gave a great performance and flew the Wexford flag proudly on the day.
