GAA/CAMOGIE NEWS

Our under-15 boys played in the under-15 Championship semi-final against the Shelmaliers on Sunday, September 15, in Bree and unfortunately the boys were just not strong enough on this occasion to win. It was brilliant achievement for a very young team to get to a semi-final in a Roinn one championship and the boys did their best on the day. Well done to the boys and heads up and look forward to next year. Thank you very much to the management team of Paul Hayes, Mick Jacob, Tony Byrne, James Ormonde and Paul Finn for all the work with the boys and to Pauline Roche for first aid. All the work that you do is appreciated. Without our volunteers it would be impossible to run.

Children from first class to sixth class are all invited to take part, doing Fundamental movement and hurling skills from 8 a.m. to 8.50 a.m. before school. It has been proved that children doing exercise before class makes them more alert and full of energy for the day ahead. If you need more information please do not hesitate to contact the school principal Mr Darren Nolan or Shane Reddy, Club Coaching Officer.

CAMOGIE – Well done to the under-10 girls who played in the Co under-10 camogie Finals Day in Buffers Alley on Saturday, September 15. We had two teams qualified in the Finals. Team Red played Cushinstown Gold and won their match and Team Black played Gusserane and won their match as well. The girls played super with great determination and skill.

Thank you to all the parents/ guardians for all their support and help. A big thank you to the mentors of the two teams, Paul Hayes, Dermot Byrne, Pauline Moore, Yvonne O’Connor, Ger Martin and Josie Sinnott for all the training and mentoring with the girls.

CONGRATULATIONS – Congratulations to Michael and Christy Jacob, who were honoured by Wexford Co. Co and Wexford GAA, on Friday, September 14, at a civic reception, along with the other heroes of the 1968 all-Ireland Senior hurling team. It was a rare occasion where members of that famous team came together to reminisce on that golden year of Wexford GAA. A huge attendance of players and players’ representatives enjoyed a great evening and were presented with a replica of the jersey that was worn in the final.

CLUB LOTTO – The club runs a two-week lotto draw to help pay for the running of the club and for the up keep of the pitches. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to support the lotto by taking a book of six tickets for €12 to be in with a chance of winning €9,000 plus five luckydip winners of €30 each draw.
