Charity family walk in St Martin’s GAA club

- By BRENDAN KEANE

ST Martin’s GAA Club will play host to a 5km family walk next weekend to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) charity.

The event is part of a national fundraising campaign called #WearYourStripes and will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 7.

The Walk4Famlies aspect of the campaign will be aimed at everybody in the community and will take place at an appropriate pace.

There will also be family-fun activities taking place on the day to keep the entertainment levels high.

Ronald McDonald House helps families all over Ireland in circumstances where children are seriously and long term ill in Crumlin Hospital.

A spokesperson for RMH said there will be an emphasis on employees and students ‘wearing their stripes’ to work or school on Friday, October 5, to show their support for families who have a seriously sick child in hospital.

The charity’s volunteer Chief Executive Officer in Ireland, Marian Carroll, said families who have stayed with RMH in Crumlin are organising seven walking events around the country.

The charity has helped 3,628 families since 2004 and Ms Carroll said families throughout the country are aware of the services provided by the organisation.

‘We keep families close at the most challenging time in their lives,’ she said.

‘We are asking that people support a walk in their own county,’ she added.

Anyone interested in participating in the walk can register through the Ronald McDonald House website and the cost of registering will be €30 per family.

The charity suggests that corporate or school events should include a €2 donation from everyone participating. Anyone wishing to contribute to the campaign but who might not be able to attend the walk in St Martin’s GAA club can donate €4 to the cause by texting House to 50300.

The texts cost €4 and the minimum amount forwarded to the charity will be €3.26.

However, all of the money raised from the walk and wear your stripes events will go directly to the charity.
