Crossabeg HARVEST THANKSGIVI­NG

Harvest Thanksgivi­ng takes place over the weekend of October 6 and seven. It is a time to give thanks for all that we have received. Fresh flowers/or shrubs would be most welcome for the church celebratio­ns, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, preserves and canned foods. You can leave any items at the back of the church on the Friday evening or on Saturday morning, October 6,

55+CLUB

The Crossabeg 55+Club are back in action for the winter months and meet every Tuesday afternoon at Kyle Forge from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. New members are most welcome. If you have time on your hands, and would like to join up with the members, then why not call down to the Forge where you will receive a warm welcome, meet new friends and chat over a cup of tea or coffee and join in the activities.

UNDERAGE SOCCER

If you have a child that is interested in playing soccer for Crossabeg-Ballymurn club for the upcoming season, please contact Anthony Quinn at 086 8122692. The club is catering for under-nine, 10, 11- and 12-yearolds.

DOGS ON THE LOOSE

Do you know where your dog or dogs are at night time. Are they housed securely for the night. We have a report that dogs have been worrying sheep in the Slaneylodg­e area of Crossabeg in the past week or so. This can be very traumatic not only for the animals, but also for their owners. So please, we ask that you keep an eye on your family pets.

ROAD RUN

The Over the Water Vintage Club are holding a Road Run on Sunday, October 14, The registrati­on of entrants will take place from 11 a.m. in Ballymurn village and the Run will start out from the village at 1 p.m. All proceeds in aid of Ballymurn national school. Your support will be greatly appreciate­d.

ATHLETICS

Well done to Jack and Amy Forde, who represente­d St Killian’s A.C.at the County Throws on Saturday week last at the DMP grounds. Amy came first in both the under-19 Hammer and Senior Hammer events, first in the under-19 Discus and third in the Senior Discus. Jack came first in the under-16 Discus. Well done to both.

At the Leinster Schools Combined Events held on Thursday of last week, Jack Forde, representi­ng the CBS Wexford, finished in second place and now goes forward to the all-Ireland Combined finals next month. Good luck Jack.

The Wexford County Novice and Juvenile (even ages) Cross Country events take place in Adamstown on Sunday, October 7, with the County Senior and Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country to be held at Kennedy Park, New Ross on Sunday, October 14, Best of luck to all from St Killian’s AC who will be in action.

SILVER CIRCLE

A new fundraisin­g initiative has been launched to raise money towards building a community centre at the community field in Garry william. The Silver Circle is a series of 12 monthly draws and one bumper draw confined to holders of the 400 tickets sold. Each month, five prizes of €200 are to be won and the bumper draw will have a total prize pot of €10,000.

Joining the Circle costs €240. This can be paid by cheque or standing order instalment­s. Members of the committee will be calling to homes in the coming weeks to assist people in signing up. Alternativ­ely, you can contact one of the committee to arrange a purchase. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Oulart GET WELL WISHES

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health to the people from the area who are sick at home or in hospital. For security reasons and to maintain their privacy, their names will not be published unless requested by themselves or their next-of-kin. Don’t forget that on the First Friday of every month the Rosary will be recited in St Mochua’s Church, at 7.30 p.m. for the intentions of the sick of the parish. Everyone is welcome to attend.

FIRST COMMUNION ENROLMENT

‘Do this in memory’ is a parish based programme of preparatio­n for First Communion, centred in the parish celebratio­n of the Sunday Eucharist and in the home. Following a meeting in the schools of the parents/guardians of the First Communion classes on Monday, October 1, the enrolment for candidates will take place on Sunday, October 7, at 10 a.m. Mass in Oulart and at 11 a.m. Mass in the Ballagh.

HEALTHY CLUB PROJECT

Some places are still available on the ‘Get Strong Live Long’ sixweek exercise programme for older adults. Sinéad Ronan will be the fitness instructor and the first class will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 8 p.m. This initiative is being promoted by Breda Flood, Oulart-The Ballagh GAA, Healthy Club Officer.

FIRST RESPONDERS

OPEN MIC NIGHTS

The Sawdust Inn will host Open Mic Nights, for eight weeks, starting on Thursday, October 27, with the proceeds going to the Community First Responder Unit. Music will be by Teresa and the Stars.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to the most recent winner of Scoil Mochua’s split-the-pot – Mary Foley – who won €104. The next draw will be held on Monday, October 8.

MARTIN STOREY TOURNAMANT

This under-14 Tournament will run for six weeks, with the first round to be played on Sunday, October 14, and the finals to take place in Oulart on November 25.

Eighteen teams are competing this year and the fixtures for Oulart-The Ballagh are as follows:

Sunday, October 14, Home to Ferns, St Aidan’s; Sunday, October 21, Away to Rapparees; to be followed by Home to Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n; Away to St Anne’s and Home to Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s.

Starting time for all matches is 11 a.m.

365 HURLING

365 Hurling takes place in the the Ballaghkee­ne NS every Wednesday, weather permitting. Children from first class to sixth class are all invited to take part, doing fundamenta­l movement and hurling skills from 8 a.m. to 8.50 a.m. before school. If you need more informatio­n please do not hesitate to contact the school principal, Mr Darren Nolan or Shane Reddy, Club Coaching Officer.

UNDER-17 COUNTY FINAL

Best of luck to Oulart-The Ballagh under-17 hurlers and management, in the county final against Cloughbawn, on Saturday, October 6, at 12.30 p.m. in St Patrick’s Park. Let’s hope that they can bring home another underage county final victory to add to the under-13 and Rackard League titles that were won earlier in the year.

It promises to be a busy Saturday for Oulart-The Ballagh supporters as the senior camogie county final takes place in Bellefield at 3 p.m. on the same day.

SENIOR CAMOGIE FINAL

Well done to Oulart-The Ballagh Senior camogie team on their victory over St Ibar’s, Shelmalier­s in the Co. semi-final, which they won on a scoreline of three goals 11 points to five points. Team and management are wished the best of luck in the county final against reigning champions, St Martin’s on Sunday, October 6, in Bellefield, at 3 p.m.

LUCKY-DIP WINNERS

Oulart-The Ballagh Club lotto, which runs every two weeks, has a prize-fund in excess of €9,000. Tickets at €2 are available from local businesses and from club promoters. The €30, lucky-dip winners on September 24 were Dennis Morton, Colette McRedmond, Stephen and Mary Doyle, Ciara O’Sullivan and Irene Hayden.

CLUB DEVELOPMEN­T

The club developmen­t is moving along well and the astroturf and Hurling Wall is now started and all going well it will be up and running by the end of November and ready for winter training. A small pitch for the young players below the top pitch is also being developed. The lower complex is finished with four dressing rooms and a gym and the club would like to sincerely thank everyone who has contribute­d to the Developmen­t Fund for the past two years.

Over the Water ANNUAL 6K RUN

St Ibar’s/Shelmalier­s camogie club will hold their annual 6K Run on Sunday, October 14, at 10 a.m. Chip Timing and you can walk or run or jog around the course. Refreshmen­ts also served. There will be cash prizes for the first woman and first man home. Registrati­on is €10 for adults, €5 for children and €20 for family. Registrati­on will take place from 8.30 a.m. in Hollymount. The race itself starts and finishes from the Shelmalier GAA grounds in Hollymount.

DEVELOPMEN­T LOTTO

results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, September 23, The numbers drawn were 19, 21, 22 and 26. There was no jackpot winner and no matchthree winners. €450 will be on offer for match-three winners in the next draw.

ROAD RUN

Christmas cards (Partners 45) for turkeys will get under way in Hotel Curracloe on Thursday night of this week, October 4t at 9 p.m. There is an open draw, and all are welcome. You must play six nights to qualify for the Christmas final.

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

The Parents Associatio­n have organised a Clothes Collection in conjunctio­n with the National Council for the Blind. Please bring your bags of unwanted clothing, linen, curtains, belts, handbags and shoes (paired) in plastic bags to the school by today Tuesday October 2 (no cushions, duvets, pillows, socks or underwear please.) All donations of clothing etc. will be sold in the NCBI shops nationwide, or recycled. The school will receive money per 10kg filled bag.

Congratula­tions to the recent split-the-pot winner, Caroline Harding – Kenny, who won €111. Many thanks to all the supporters. Split-the-pot envelopes (€2 each) can be purchased in all the local businesses in Curracloe village, as well as from the school.

On Wednesday, September 26, pupils from third sixth class took part in the Crossabeg fun marathon. All the children should be very proud of themselves as they worked so well together in supporting and encouragin­g each other to complete a very tough challenge. They represente­d Curracloe school superbly well and school staff, parents and guardians were delighted with their performanc­e.

Children in fifth and sixth classes will enjoy an afternoon of tennis this Wednesday, October 3, Thanks to the Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club. Well done to both the boys and girls who have each won their first football match in the Rackard League. Good luck in the next games.

Fifth and sixth class pupils were delighted to be announced on News2day as winners of a competitio­n to win a copy of the book ‘Tomi’ which will help them to understand more about the Holocaust in a child friendly way.

On Thursday of last week, the children took on the teachers in a number of activities as part of the active school including basketball, penalty shoot-out, obstacle course, three legged race, sack race, tug of war, dodgeball. Despite their best efforts the teachers were well beaten by the students. Well done to the active flag committee for a very well organised event.

Bingo will start in the school hall on Sunday, October 21, from 3.30 5 p.m. The school would appreciate your support.

TALK FOR PARENTS/ GUARDIANS

A HSE Substance Abuse talk and discussion for parents and guardians has been re-fixed for this evening, Tuesday, October 2 at 8 p.m. The talk will be held at 8 p.m at the complex in Hollymount. All are most welcome to attend.
