Birds at the Pumphouse

-

THE Wexford wildlife artist David Daly has confirmed that his annual watercolour exhibition will include a number of his new oil paintings this year.

The exhibition titled ‘Images of Birds’ will be officially opened at the Pumphouse in Wexford Wildfowl Reserve in Ardcavan on Saturday, October 20 at 4 p.m. by Padraig Comerford, the Divisional Manager of the National Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, and will continue until November 4.

‘Although most of my paintings at the year’s exhibition will be watercolours, I’ve had several requests to include some oils and I’m delighted to do so’, said Dave.

‘I was greatly inspired by a visit I made to Mertola in Portugal earlier this year. While there I filled two large notebooks with sketches and watercolour studies of the extraordinary bird life in the Steppe region there and was impressed by its remarkable bio-diversity.’

Dave, who is keen ornithologist and conservationist, is preparing a programme of watercolour demonstrations in 2019 for which he will explore Wexford’s hidden bird habitats which he strongly feels deserves to be cherished and preserved.

‘No matter where you travel, be it to Portugal or to the estuaries of the Wexford coastline, you cannot fail to marvel at both the range and beauty of these habitats’, he said.

Daly is a member of the prestigious Water Colour Society of Ireland, and has illustrated several books, including The Complete Garden Bird Book, Bill Oddie’s Birds of Britain and Wild Dublin.

He has also been invited to paint in several locations outside Ireland, including Israel, Portugal and Spain.

The exhibition will be open every day from 10 am to 5 pm, including the day of the launch.
