Free talk on resilience in the real world as part of psychology conference

-

A FREE public talk on mental health will be offered as part of the Psychological Society of Ireland’s annual conference which takes place in Clayton White’s Hotel from November 7 to 10.

The conference will see over 350 delegates descend on Wexford town which last hosted the group’s annual flagship event in 2009.

Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Jim Daly will be in Wexford to officially open the PSI Conference on the evening of Wednesday, at 6.30 pm.

The PSI was mindful of supporting a mental health cause in the locality so, as part of the official opening, they are offering a free public talk which is being supported by the Wexford ‘Ask’ mental health awareness campaign.

Psychologist Niamh Fitzpatrick will present the talk, ‘Resilience in the Real World’.

The talk will focus on finding resilience and coping with challenges when tough times hit. Mr Fitzpatrick will outline the tools and resources people can access to help navigate through these hurdles, and find a way through. She will explain practical strategies for accomplishing this.

Various presentations will take place during the course of the PSI Conference, with renowned international Psychologists delivering keynote presentations, as well as Independent Senator Lynn Ruane addressing the delegation on Friday afternoon.

The PSI is also delighted to be partnering with the Wexford Light Opera Society (WLOS) for a fun event during the conference as well as having the group provide the Gala Dinner entertainment.

With the opera festival coming to a conclusion just a few days earlier, the conference will offer a further boost to the town economy with over 300 guests booked into local hotels and guest-houses.

PSI Chief Executive Officer, Terri Morrissey, said: ‘Wexford is a great location for us to hold the Society’s 48th Annual Conference. Although the Conference is aimed primarily at Psychologists, we are delighted to offer our free public talk to all on Wednesday 07 November from 6.30pm. The PSI always tries to give something back to the local community by running this free event and showing support for a local charity or campaign. It is fitting that we link in this year with the ‘ask’ campaign and offer our free public talk Resilience in the Real World.’

Those interested in attending the free public talk should register on the PSI website, www. psychologicalsociety.ie.
