Cuan Aingeal ladies set up bereavement support group

- By ANNA HAYES

TWO LOCAL women, who were instrumental in the construction of the Cuan Aingeal memorial garden in Ardcavan, have set up a monthly support group for those dealing with grief and bereavement.

Bernadette O’Leary and Lorraine Smyth saw six years of hard work and dedication coming to fruition in July of this year when the public garden was opened as a place for people to find comfort and solace.

The idea of having a memorial garden grew off the back of a candlelit vigil which the women organised in 2012.

The support group was something that the women had always planned to start once the garden was up and running.

Bernadette said: ‘People had asked us about doing something like that for a long time, even before the garden was completed. There’s nothing like this in Wexford for bereaved families. It will be an informal, self-help meeting where people can share their story if they like. If it will help one person, it will be worth it. Everyone deals with grief differently.’

The Cuan Aingeal support group will meet for the first time on Monday, November 5 at the Riverbank House Hotel. It will meet on the first Monday of every month thereafter.
