Monageer ease into semi-final
Five goals sink Davidstown
MONAGEER-BOOLAVOGUE are into the semi-final of the Greenstar Under-20 football Division 4 championship after a comfortable 20-point home win over Davidstown-Courtnacuddy on Saturday.
The early exchanges gave no indication that the game would be as one-sided, as the teams were level at 0-3 apiece after 15 minutes.
The remainder of the game was totally dominated by the home side who kept their opponents scoreless again until midway through the second-half to record a wide-margin win.
In the opening period both sides were guilty of wayward shooting, but Monageer-Boolavogue got a crucial breakthrough when Colm McGannon found the net after good work from Robbie Donnelly in the 22nd minute to put the hosts 1-5 to 0-3 ahead.
They extended that lead thanks to points from Micheál Gahan (two) and a couple of frees from Cathal Walsh, and went in at the break ahead on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-3.
The home side steadily extended their lead in the early stages of the second-half with points from Cathal Walsh (two) and Ian Hawkins.
The game was put to bed in a devastating ten-minute spell when Monageer-Boolavogue hit four goals between the 43rd and 53rd minutes.
The impressive Micheál Gahan began the blitz with a fine solo effort, and substitute Daniel Breen added a second.
Gahan was again on target before another replacement, Matthew Rochford, completed the rout when he netted.
Davidstown-Courtnacuddy’s Ryan Murray found the net to give his side a consolation goal and leave the score at 5-11 to 1-4 with five minutes to play.
Cathal Walsh added a brace from play to cap off an impressive performance as Monageer-Boolavogue marched on to a semi-final.
