ATHLETICS

Juvenile outdoor training at the local community field has now concluded for the winter months. There will be no training this week for mid term. Training will resume indoors in Crossabeg national school on Monday, November 5, from 6.30-7.30 p.m for first to third classes and from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. for fourth classes and upwards. Training on Thursday nights only for the older group from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. The annual general meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, Ann Foley, RIP.

One of Crossabegs most respected and well known residents, Ann Foley of Crory, died on Friday of last week. She celebrated her 90th birthday back in June and had been in failing health recently.

Formerly Ann Crean-Murphy of Curracloe, and beloved wife of the late Seán, she immersed herself in all aspects of country life and farming, while raising a son and daughter, John and Fionnuala. She took a keen interest in her community, and was always on hand to offer her services to help out with fundraising events. Indeed she kept up that interest till a couple of years ago and could be seen at Kyle Forge helping out with the coffee morning for the Hospice Home Care, among others.

She involved herself with the senior citizens committee, selling tickets and collecting spot prizes as well as making a Christmas cake. She could be seen on the night of the party chatting away to the guests and making them most welcome. She loved her home and gardening was a particular joy for her. Many of her flower arrangements could be seen in the local church.

She had a great devotion to her church and was a regular church goer. She became a member of the Altar Society and took a pride in decorating the church weekly and on special occasions. The members of the group became her close friends and each helped the other.

She will be sadly missed by her son and daughter, grandchildren Shane and Katie, daughter-in-law Julie, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and family friends and neighbours. She reposed at her residence on Saturday and Sunday and removal took place to Crossabeg church on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. with Requiem Mass offered up on Monday morning at midday. Burial took place afterwards to the adjoining cemetery RIP.
