Quiet Hallowe’en for the local fire service

- By ANNA HAYES

FIRE BRIGADES around the country were on high alert on Hallowe’en Night but, in Wexford, it was a quiet occasion for the crews as not one call out was logged for October 31.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said it was a pleasant surprise that their services were not required on the traditionally busy night.

Organised events in local communities have gone a long way towards diminishing the amount of unauthorised and dangerous events such as bonfires.

The Wexford crew did receive one call in the early hours of Thursday morning (November 1) to a fire in Ferndale which was smouldering and they quickly extinguished it.

The spokesperson said there were no elements of anti-social behaviour, adding that they approached that fire with no blue lights as they did not want to cause alarm in the area.
