Southend paintings and photos on display
Members of Southend Camera Club and Southend Art group joined forces for a Wexford Opera Festival exhibition in the Franciscan Friary hall.
The exhibition of paintings and photographs was officially opened by the South East Radio presenter Alan Corcoran who commended the standard of the work on display.A large group of family and friends turned up to support the artists and photographers who meet regularly in the Southend Family Resource Centre in The Faythe.
It was the first time that members of the Art Group which was established two years ago, have staged a public exhibition of their work and they decided to join with the longer-established Camera Club which has held a Festival exhibition for the past seven years.
The photographic exhibition features an eclectic mix of subjects from places and people close to home in Wexford and as far away as Russia and trips to Cork and Carlow in between. ‘We do a lot of travelling with the club,’ said retired centre board member Kathleen Fitzpatrick who is a member of both the Camera Club and the Art Group.
Both groups are very enjoyable and therapeutic to be involved in, according to Kathleen who explained: ‘We have found in the centre that when we have worries or problems that might get us down, the art helps tremendously. One of our younger members has gone on to study art in college’. The group’s art tutors are Margaret Creane and Maria Mahon.
