Danny was a hero to his family and a friend to all

-

WEXFORD TOWN lost a wellknown character in the shape of 76-year-old Danny Beary Snr, who passed away suddenly on October 21.

Born in 1942, Danny was one of ten children. The family lived at Columba’s Villas, Bride Street and Danny went to school in the local CBS. He was an altar boy in Bride Street Church and, by his own admission, was a good underage hurler while he was in school.

As an adult, he met Anne Hurley and they were married. They moved to live and work in London, returning home when their first child Mary was born. Danny worked in Pierce’s Foundry but, because he had a bed chest, he had to leave. He subsequently took up a job in Wexford Creamery where he worked up until his retirement. He enjoyed pitchand-putt while he worked in the Creamery.

Danny was a man of great faith and he spent a lot of time between the three town churches - Bride Street, Rowe Street and Clonard. He spent a lot of time in Bride Street with the Adoration Sisters.

He loved going to GAA and soccer matches, especially when family members were playing.

He was very proud of his nephew Adam when he was called up to the Irish structure. He was also immensely proud when his home club, North End, won the FAI Junior Cup earlier this year.

He was his daughter Imelda’s sideline companion at all of the matches she travelled to and was well-known for being a passionate spectator.

In recent weeks, two of his grandchildren, Jason and Richard won cups for underage GAA and he was brimming with pride. He was very proud of all of his family, and he doted on all of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a hero to his family who considered him to be the greatest man.

He had a wide circle of friends and was a great friend to all, helping people out where he could. He had an easy-going nature, a lovely smile, and had time for everyone he met. He was a familiar sight in the town, going about his day on his scooter.

His family expressed special thanks to Danny’s neighbours in Belvedere Grove who provided great support.

Danny is predeceased by his brothers Johnny, Nicky, Myles and Pat; his sisters Maureen, Madge and Rosie; his daughter Rosie; and grandson Martin.

He is survived by his daughters Mary, Anne, Imelda, Brigid and Claire; his sons Gerard, Danny, Anthony and Patrick; his sisters Lily and Anne; his 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; extended family, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a h-ainm.
