Vets’ big boost for Wexford SPCA
A RECENT fundraising event at O’Shea, Bramley and Breen Veterinary Hospital raised a total of €3,072.07 for the Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The event, an open day at the centre, welcomed a large crowd of animal lovers who enjoyed tea and cake, participated in a dog show, and cheered on vets Richard Bramley, Martin Breen and Brian O’Shea as they took part in a 24-hour static sponsored cycle in a tent next to the centre.
Brigid Cullen from the WSPCA explained that the vets, who have always offered great support to the charity, took shifts on the bikes, cycling right through the night and finishing up on the day of the Open Day.
People donated plenty of homemade baking for the cake sale, which flew off the tables, and there was a good crowd of competitors in the dog show.
Ms Cullen added that the day also functioned as an adoption day and said they had a good number of people who put their name down as interested in adopting.
‘The day was about raising awareness as much as anything. We got a good response and we will carry out home checks for those people. We were very happy with the day.’
The money raised, she said, would go towards a spaying and neutering programme that will take place in the new year, offering cut prices to those who bring pets in for the procedure.
