Panto time? No it’s not...Oh yes it is!
MEMBERS OF Wexford Pantomime Society will get their first run out in front of a crowd this weekend when they take part in the launch of Wexford Winterland and the switching on of the town Christmas lights.
While panto season is still a few months away, the team behind this year’s show ‘Robin Hood’ is already hard at work and people will have a chance to meet the colourful cast on the streets of Wexford this Saturday afternoon. The parade begins in Selskar Square at 4 p.m. and will proceed along the main street and down Anne Street on to the Quay.
The Wexford Pantomime children’s choir will be entertaining on the quay where the lights will officially be switched on.
Rehearsals are in full swing and the group is looking forward to brightening up the traditionally dull January weeks with some Wexford humour and fun. This year’s cast features a wealth of well-known faces, alongside some newcomers.
Stephen Byrne takes on the iconic role of Robin Hood, with Niamh Cullen as his Maid Marian. His band of Merry Men will include Barry Wadding as Little John, Mick Farrell as Alan of Ferndale, Brandon Cogley as Will Scarlet, and Craig Healy as Friar Tuck.
They will clash with Neal O’Leary’s Sheriff of Nottingham and Dylan Walsh as Prince John.
Robert Duggan White will play Mumsie, Linda Hynes will take the role of Maid Mavis, Jeanette Sidney Kelly plays Niamh with Ruth Donegan as Nuala. Martin Conway takes on the role of Sir Guy of Gisborne while Chris Doyle plays Barney the Bear and Jane Kent will play Blossom the Fairy.
The show will run from Monday, January 7 to Sunday, January 13, 2019. Tickets go on sale from noon on November 24 and can be purchased from the Dun Mhuire Box Office or online.
