GUN PULL HITS THE SPOT FOR CHARITIES

THERE WERE plenty of smiles at the Wexford Military Barracks as the funds raised in an artillery gun pull were presented to two worthy recipients.

The Wexford Reserve Defence Forces took part in the event in September pulled the gun from Enniscorthy, down the N11, and into Wexford town.

As a result of their dedication, cheques for €1,653.33 were presented to the Jack and Jill Foundation, and the Marie Keating Foundation.

Comdt Enda McDonald explained that they had chosen these charities as they were aware of some members, both of the Reserves and the Defence Forces, who had used the services of the charities in the past and they wanted to give back to them for the work they did.

The event itself, he said, was a great success, pointing out that in both towns, locals had got behind the effort with historical re-enactors coming out in full costume in Enniscorthy and a piper and Irish Wolfhound joining in with the group when they passed through the streets of Wexford town.

Cmdt McDonald said they were very pleased with the feedback and support they had received, and said it was something that they would probably look at doing again in the future.

‘It was a brilliant occasion. We will definitely think about doing it again for different charities. We got great support even just from people who were on the street watching us.’

The gun pull took about fourand-a-half hours, with teams of six working in rotation.
