Molumphy joins hurling backroom team

-

FORMER WATERFORD player Stephen Molumphy has joined the Wexford Senior hurling backroom team.

Molumphy, who was part of our neighbours’ Senior hurling squad during Day Fitzgerald’s reign as their manager, will link up with Saoirse Bulfin, Keith Rossiter and J.J. Doyle. He comes into the set-up in place of Páraic Fanning, who is the new Waterford manager.

There has been a considerable shakeup of the squad, and names missing for 2019 include Conor O’Leary, Aaron Maddock, Jake Firman, Shane Tomkins, Eoin Molloy, Garrett Foley, Michael O’Regan and Colm Kehoe.

With O’Leary deciding to opt out of the panel, the substitute goalkeeping role is being handed to long-time servant, Eanna Martin, who figured in that position in the second-half against Limerick in Boston.

The Wexford squad will begin training for the 2019 campaign on December 3.

And there was good news when they were successful with their hearing against the loss of a National League home game over an alleged breach of the training camp rule.

Following Croke Park’s decision to come down heavy on Wexford, Waterford, Armagh and Laois, it looked as if the county would lose out on hosting the much-anticipated league clash with the All-Ireland champions, Limerick.

However, following a visit to the Hearings committee, it was decided that no sanction will now be imposed on Wexford who can look forward to a big occasion on January 27.
