GAA CLUB NOTES

The under-16 hurlers bounced back from last week’s defeat to record a convincing 2-17 to 0-10 victory to a previously undefeated Ramsgrange side in Pairc Naomh Brid on Sunday, November 11, morning in dry, conditions. Unfortunately James only had 14 players so the game was played with 14 a side. The side again contained a number of our younger players including one of our allowed older players Pad O’Connor and a number of positional changes. Also there was unlimited substitutions so it was a roll on, roll off system.

The first half was again marred by a number of wides from both sides, with Adam Murphy frees keeping our score ticking over. James were leading by one with five minutes to go before our lads made a late scoring spurt, pointing three in a row including an Ollie shot at goal which rose over the bar. James responded to leave the just a minimum between the sides, without having tested Brian Og in the goal with Rían Salmon giving a fine performance at full back.

Our lads started the better off in the second period, two Adam Murphy frees including two nice scores from play from him, one of which was on the sideline. James though stayed in touch putting over two frees before with five minutes gone, Eugene Clarke turned his marker and was heading for goal only to be dragged down, Adam Murphy pointed the resulting free. Then the game changer with 10 gone, a long ball in from Kealan Fikentscher went over the full backs head and Ollie Murphy was on hand to flick to the net. This seemed to settle the lads and St James lost a man with 15 left due to a second yellow card. Our lads were now completely on top and notched on further scores including a Johnny O’Toole goal with seven left, Kealan Fikentscher again being the provider with a long ball in and Johnny on hand to finish to the net. Jimmy, Ollie and an Adam free finished out the match.
