Eddi Reader in a return to the Opera House
SCOTTISH songwriter Eddi Reader will make a welcome return to Wexford in the New Year when she performs in the National Opera House on Friday, February 15.
The show will be one of a number of gigs being undertaken by the former Fairground Attraction singer as part of her 11th successive nationwide Irish tour.
She will be accompanied by her regular band members: John Douglas (guitar/vocals); Boo Hewerdine (guitar/ vocals); Alan Kelly (piano accordion), and Kevin McGuire (double bass/vocals).
An engaging and captivating performer she instils passion and emotion into every performance.
She also has an ability to connect with her audiences in a way that few other artists can.
As a member of Fairground Attraction she came to international prominence in the 1980s - especially in the wake of the enormous success of the band’s debut single, ‘Perfect’, from the album ‘First of a Million Kisses’.
In the interim she has collaborated with numerous other high profile artists including harmonising with Annie Lennox while touring with the Eurythmics.
She also paid her punk dues as part of the band Gang of Four.
Having followed a number of different musical paths on her artistic journey it’s as a solo artist that she has expressed herself most and cemented her reputation as a powerful figure within British music.
To-date she has released nine critically acclaimed albums, won three Brit awards, had a No.1 single and was honoured with an MBE.
The forthcoming Wexford gig will showcase material from her new album, ‘Cavalier’, which features traditional and contemporary songs and fans will also hear numerous other tracks from the songwriter’s glittering 30-year career.
