WARM WELCOME FOR ICELAND

- By ANNA HAYES

THERE WERE plenty of packed trolleys and baskets as Iceland opened their 26th Irish store in Redmond Square last week.

The store is the second Iceland in Wexford; it spans 7,890 square feet and has created 25 new jobs in the area.

Store manager Kate Szkaradek said that even before they had opened their doors they’d received many queries about the store.

She added that they had opened the store at a perfect time, just weeks before Christmas.

‘We had a very busy opening day. People were queuing to come in and people came in to take advantage of the great offers in store. People are delighted to have another option and we’re in a great location too.’

The ribbon was cut by Kevin Hughes, from Slimming World, an organisation that works very closely with Iceland.

Kate added: ‘People think that it’s just frozen food but we have as much grocery as frozen stock. Lots of people were stocking up for Christmas. We look forward to showing Wexford what Iceland is all about - innovation, quality and great value.’

Ron Metcalfe, Managing Direct of Iceland Ireland said: ‘We are thrilled to open our second store in Wexford, and just before Christmas. We have had fantastic support from our customers in Gorey and we are looking forward to growing our base in Wexford by supplying quality produce and innovative frozen favourites. Our Christmas range has just arrived and our new customers will be spoilt for choice – from our famous party platters and award-winning mince pies to our Christmas tree flavour crisps, all of which are palm-oil free!’

Following the company’s recent press in relation to their Christmas TV advert, the now famous ‘Rang-Tan’ was also present, in the shape of a children’s cuddly toy, the proceeds from which will go to an orangutan rehabilitation charity.

The store opens Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m., and from 10 a.m. on Sundays.
