Hurling all the way for Clonard in 2019

-

THE PROMOTION of hurling in Wexford town is set for a boost in 2019 with the news that Clonard officials have taken up an offer from the G.A.A. to focus solely on the small ball code. The new move was outlined in a press release issued on Friday by Neil Carty, who is the club Chairman.

He explained that, following a specially-created G.A.A. task force to review structures in Wexford town, which included past President Liam O’Neill, it was concluded that Wexford town has the capacity to have two full-time dedicated hurling clubs.

‘The recent excellent progress made at all levels of hurling, including Senior, is vital to the lifeblood of the G.A.A. in Wexford, and Wexford town can help continue this upward trend,’ he added.

‘Due to our strategic location in the centre of the largest populated area of Wexford town, and with our 40-year history of hurling, Clonard G.A.A. club was approached by Leinster G.A.A. and Wexford G.A.A. with a view to becoming a dedicated hurling club.

‘We are very excited about working with all levels of Leinster G.A.A. and Wexford G.A.A. to further promote hurling in town.

‘We will be announcing an exciting range of plans and initiatives in the new year that will ensure Clonard offer the highest quality hurling coaching and development for both current and new members which will see hurling in Clonard, and indeed Wexford town, continue to prosper.’
