CU scholarships in memory of Brenda
WITH the costs associated with being a third level student increasing all the time, there was plenty of anticipation at The Riverside Park Hotel recently as Enniscorthy Credit Union hosted its annual scholarship draw.
This year saw a huge entry of over 100 third level and PLC students and a fund of €9,000 was up for grabs on the night, those gathered hoping that they’d be the lucky ones to benefit.
Chairman of Enniscorthy Credit Union Nick Cosgrave welcomed everybody and master of ceremonies Liam Waters acknowledged the presence of Mr Barry O’Neill, representing O’Neill family. The scholarship had been renamed the Brenda O’Neill Memorial Scholarship in memory of Brenda who worked at the Credit Union for over 30 years and sadly passed away last year.
Michael Brennan PC was tasked with ensuring that proceedings were correct and proper and with much fanfare, the winners were drawn from the drum.
In the third level section, the winner of three instalments of €1,500 was Conor Hearne from Ballymurn. He was followed by second place Jack Foley from Castledockrell who won €1,000. Scholarships of €500 were presented to Eoin Murphy of Askinamore, Ferns; Michael Kinsella of Tomanoole, Ballycarney; Nicole Kavanagh from Killanne and Jamie Roban from Ballindaggin.
The winners of the PLC scholarships were Hannah Bolger from Court Street who was awarded €1,000 and John McWey of Coolgarrow who walked away with €500.
