Teagasc’s school art competition

- By BRENDAN KEANE

AN ART COMPETITION has been launched at Johnstown Castle aimed specifically at secondary school students across Co Wexford.

The competition is being organised by Teagasc and the participants will have the opportunity to win a laptop for their school.

Entries will be accepted in both the senior and junior cycles of the schools and a maximum of three entries per school will be allowed.

It’s expected that details about the competition will be submitted to secondary schools throughout the county over the coming weeks.

The overall theme will be based around ‘soils and the environment’ and the organisers are hoping the initiative will promote positive awareness around nature and the environment in general in addition to providing young people in the county with the opportunity to showcase their artistic flair.

The competition was launched to coincide with Science Week at the Teagasc centre at Johnstown Castle.

The organisers said the competition is aimed at stimulating student awareness on how agriculture and the environment are linked.

The initiative was launched by two members of the team at Johnstown Castle, Dr John Finn and Eleanor Spillane (campus administrator) along with students from Bridgetown College and their science teacher, Theresa Cole.

To register interest in the competition, schools can contact Ms Spillane at eleanor.spillane@teagasc.ie.
