MULAN IS A COLOURFUL HIT

THE National Opera House in Wexford provided the venue for a very special theatrical perforKilm­ore National School presented their version of Disney’s Mulan Junior in the prestigiou­s venue. The show was staged on Thursday and Friday last and it was a fantastic spectacle befitting the prestigiou­s surroundin­gs in which it was held. From the vibrant, colourful costumes and subtle but exquisite stage set, to the carefully choreograp­hed dance and song routines it was a show that had it all.

The costumes were deserving of particular praise as they greatly added to the overall spectacle of the show.

There were some fantastic moments throughout including a scene where five of the cast held up banners depicting the words honour; loyalty; strength; destiny and love - which were intrinsic to the overall story.

Mulan Junior was a celebratio­n of culture and honour and somehow the children managed to bring the magic and mystique of the Orient to Wexford.

There were some stand-out performanc­es from the cast who benefited from the direction of teacher, Máiread Moore, who was assisted by Órla Kelly, Dara Cullen and Liam Bates.

The principal cast members included: Grace Bates (Mulan); Keelin O’Reilly (Musha); David Kirwan (Fa Zhou); Áine Maguire (Laoizi), Ellen Stamp (Lin), Aoibh Bates (Zhang), Ava Walsh (Hong) and Zinile Mtewa (Yun) - the Five Ancestors; Niamh Fortune (Grandma Fa); Áine Fortune (Fa Li); Kayleigh Rankin (Matchmaker); Fern Doyle (Chi Fu); Aaron Dempsey (Shan-Yu); Ailbe Kitts (Captain Shang); John Phillips (Yao); Casper Cullen (Qian-Po); Ryan Furlong (Ling) and Stefan Bates (Emperor).

The success of Mulan Junior was a testimony to the talent of everyone involved; it was a night to remember because of a fantastic show.
