The competition consists of taking part in five events and adding the points accumulated together. Jack had a good day with PBs in the Shot Putt 5kg (12.05m) and in the 1000m (2.54 minutes). He competed well in the Hurdles (9.27 seconds) Long Jump (5.60m) and High Jump (1.81m). This was a marvellous performance considering he has yet another year at this age group.
SENIOR ATHLETICS
The County Masters and junior men’s race hosted by Kilmore AC were held on Sunday week last. The men’s race was billed to be a potential cracker with a number of athletes showing good form lately and it certainly did not disappoint.
From the start United Striders Athletic Club showed their intentions with Brendan Lyng setting off at a steady pace. He was followed closely by Joe Lillis, who had a super race last week in the Leinster Championships along with Pat Foley of Croghan AC. This was the case for the first couple of laps when Aidan Rogers, competing as a junior, took charge and picked up the pace.
Niall Sheil (St Killian’s) who was running a very tactical race at this point and staying out of trouble, came up to sit on Aidan’s shoulder. Coming into the last lap, Niall made a decisive move making a gap and pushed on to take a great win with Aidan in second, winning the junior race, and Pat and Joe having a great battle with Pat taking silver.
Brian O’Shaughnessy, also for St Killian’s had a great run considering he is only coming back from a sickness and great to see St Killian’s legend Pádraig Moriarty back mixing it up.
